1. Unpack the vacuum-compressed pillow carefully
The Derila Ergo Neck Support Pillow is delivered compressed. Open the outer package and then the inner vacuum bag carefully, keeping scissors or blades away from the pillow and cover.
2. Allow approximately 6–8 hours for expansion
The current Neck Support Pillow User Guide says to leave the pillow for about 6–8 hours after unpacking so it can return toward its normal shape and size. This guidance is specific to the current Ergo neck-support model; older or different Derila pillow models may have different instructions.
Why this matters: evaluating height and contour immediately after opening a vacuum pack can give a misleading impression of the finished pillow.

3. Identify the head area and shoulder arch
The butterfly design is not symmetrical in the same way as a standard rectangle. Position the curved lower edge toward your shoulders. The central area is where the head rests, while the lower contour approaches the neck and shoulder line.
For back sleeping
Place the back of your head in the central region and let the neck rest against the supportive lower contour. Avoid sliding so far up the pillow that the shoulders sit on top of the foam.
For side sleeping
Move into the side area while keeping the shoulder close to the lower arch. The correct feel depends strongly on shoulder width and mattress sink, so do not force a position that creates lateral neck tilt.
For stomach sleeping
Stomach sleepers often need less height than side sleepers. The seller provides stomach-sleeping guidance, but a fixed 12 cm maximum contour can still feel too high for some people. Comfort and neck rotation should guide use.
4. Give yourself time to assess the fit
A molded contour can feel unfamiliar if you are moving from a soft fiber pillow. Evaluate whether your head and neck feel supported without being pushed into an uncomfortable angle. If you experience worsening pain, numbness or neurological symptoms, stop using the pillow and seek appropriate medical advice.
5. Keep the foam dry and clean the cover separately
The memory foam core should be spot cleaned only. The removable cover is the washable component. See the dedicated materials and care guide for current cleaning instructions.
